Frequently Asked Questions
When you’re ordering a custom designed cake one of the first questions I will ask you is “What is your budget?” Don’t be afraid to tell me how much you have budgeted for your cake because this very important question helps me understand what you’re looking for in a custom designed cake. It also saves you time as you won’t receive a quote that is simply not in your budget. The most important thing to remember is to be flexible and realistic with your budget and give me your ideas I will work with you to design a spectacular cake that is within your budget where possible.
How much do your cakes cost?
There are many factors to determine the correct pricing for your cake and prices vary according to your requirements – size of cake, shape of cake, decoration required, cake toppers, edible printing, hire of cake stands and many other options.
All of our cakes are individually designed and priced. Check out our cake pricing page to see our starting prices, these will give you an average idea of cake costings.
Do you offer delivery?
We offer delivery and set up of our cakes to the Brisbane region from $45.
The cost of delivery will vary depending on the time we need to set up your cake at your venue, parking availability, traffic, road closures etc, but don’t worry we will quote separately for delivery.
Mid-week delivery and set up for cakes for the Gold & Sunshine coasts starts at $120.00
*Please note as of January 2018 we can no longer offer delivery to the Gold & Sunshine Coasts on weekends (Friday/Saturday/Sunday).
You are more than welcome to have a friend or guest collect your cake for you.
Can I pick my cake up from you?
Pick up is available; however we will not be responsible for any damage to the cake after it is collected. We suggest that if you’re collecting your cake you make sure you have a flat surface to put the cake on such as the car boot or the front passenger floor. If you have someone who can come with you to help keep an eye on the cake it’s a great idea. We never suggest holding the cake on your lap or car seat to transport it – it will not survive the trip!
What size cake do I need?
The serving sizes listed below are based on your cake being the main event as dessert size portions.
If your cake is not going to be the main event generally smaller portions will be enough to give everyone a taste so you may wish to order a smaller size cake.
How do I arrange a quote
Click here to send me an email or give me a call.
Please ensure you supply as much information as possible. The more details you can provide the more accurate your quote will be. You can use the guide below to see what information is required:
the date of your event;
the event location;
how many serves are required from your cake (how many people you are expecting);
will your cake be the main dessert or part of a buffet
your contact information (email and phone); and
design details (theme, colours, any photographs of ideas you like and any other information you can provide).
How far out from my function should I order my cake?
For wedding cakes I can take your booking up to a year in advance. However I like to take your booking after you have had your consultation with your florist. This allows me to offer design ideas to incorporate your theme. Please note that popular wedding months (spring and autumn) book out very quickly.
I suggest you order your cake as soon as you are able to avoid disappointment.
For special occasion cakes such as birthday’s, anniversaries, engagement parties etc we suggest you contact us to check availability at least 1 month prior.
When do I have to pay for my cake?
We require a $100 non-refundable deposit to secure your date, your cake must be paid in full 1 month prior to collection or delivery. If you order your cake within 1 month of your event you will need to pay the full amount to secure your booking date.
Unfortunately cancellations within the 8 week period prior to your even date forfeit all deposits.
Does Cake My Day by Jo cater for special dietary needs?
Some of our cupcakes are available with a gluten free option. However, we do advise that all of our products are produced using the same kitchen facilities and utensils. We are unable to guarantee that our cakes do not have traces of nuts, eggs etc. At this stage we cannot cater for dairy free, vegan, egg free cakes.
Does Cake My Day by Jo offer cake consultations/tastings?
Consultations/tastings can be arranged and are by appointment only. They are held in-house at Stafford. Consultations/tastings are generally arranged after you receive a quotation. The cake tasting/consultation takes approx. 40 minutes – 1 hour and in this time we will discuss your cake needs in detail over a cuppa tea/coffee or a glass of bubbles. You can select up to 4 flavours for you and your partner to sample. The cost of the cake tasting is $20 for 2 people. The cost of this is deducted from your cake price if you place your order with us within the quoted timeframe.
Cake tasting/consultations are generally held at 10am, 11am and noon on Saturday mornings dependent on our delivery schedule for that day.
Cake consultations/tastings are not compulsory and I have produced many unique and wonderful cake designs simply via email correspondence. Click here to email me or give me a call to arrange your consultation/tasting time and date.
Does Cake My Day by Jo offer cake samples?
Unfortunately, we do not offer cake samples, but we would love to meet you and offer cake consultation/tastings instead.
My quote says the cake is torted, what does this mean?
All of our cakes are torted unless otherwise stated. This simply means that when you cut your cake it will have 3 layers of cake and 2 layers of ganache or buttercream. Some of our extended height cakes may have more cake and ganache or buttercream layers.
What is your standard size cake height?
All of our standard cake tiers are approximately 5″ high. This means if you order a 3 tier cake it will be approx. 15″ high.
We do offer double barrel tiered cakes. These cakes look tall and impressive and you can incorporate an extended height tier into your cake to give the effect of a much larger cake and the different height tier will add interest to your cake.
Our wedding Mash-Up cakes are extended height tiers so they are approximately 6” high per tier.
Can my cake tiers be different heights?
Of course. If you would like your cake to have different heights in the tiers just let us know when you email or talk to us or at your cake tasting. We call these extended height tiers or double barrel tiers.
An extended tier is approximately 4″ – 4.5″ high and a double barrel tier is approximately 6″ high. We have examples of extended tiers and double barrel tiers in our gallery section.
Extended and double barrel tiers are a great way to add height to your cake and create interest in a particular tier – such as a tier that has a monogram or particular decoration you wish to highlight.
